Objective:to investigate the changes of serum thyroid hormone in patients with essential hypertension and their relation with serum lipid level. Methods:Took blood samples from 295 patients with essential hypertension in the fasting state, detected plasma thyroid hormone and serum lipid levels, grouped by ambulatory blood pressure, gender, disease duration and age, then, done a statistical analysis. Results:The comparison between blood pressure uncontrolled group (observation group)and blood pressure controlled group(control group)showed that:serum FT3 level of observation group was significantly lower than the control group(p<0.001).In observation group, female FT3 levels were significantly lower than males(p<0.001).Compared patients with disease duration<5years with those disease duration>5years,serum FT3 levels were significantly lower in patients with disease duration>5years.(p<0.001).In observation group, with the increasing of age,serum FT3 was gradually decreased(p<0.001). In all groups T3, T4, FT4, TSH levels were not significantly changed (p>0.05). correlation analysis showed that: In observation group the serum FT3level of male group (p>0.05) and female group (p>0.05) were not had significantly relation with the serum lipid. Conclusion:Patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure were uncontrolled have a reduction in the serum FT3 level, female patients decrease significantly, and the FT3 level decline more significantly in patents with longer duration and older age.Patients with uncontrolled blood pressure serum FT3 levels do not have significantly relation with serum lipid.
