Objective:To evaluate the feasibility and experience of laparoscopic hepatic caudate lobectomy. Methods:We carried out a case-control study of four cases of laparoscopic hepatic caudate lobectomy observed from Oct,2007 to Dec,2010 in our hospital comparing with eight cases of open hepatic caudate lobectomy in the same period. The indexes included operating time, intraoperative blood loss, days of postoperative hospitalization, postoperative complications, time of postoperative food intake, liver function changes before and after operation. Results:There were no significant difference of operating time; intraoperative blood loss; days of postoperative hospitalization; postoperative complications; time of postoperative food intake; changes of serum levels of total bilirubin, albumin, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase before and after operation between laparoscopic hepatic caudate lobectomy group and open hepatic caudate lobectomy group. Conclusions:Laparoscopic hepatic caudate lobectomy is safe and feasible when performed in selected cases and by experienced surgeons.
