Objective:To analyze the recurrent causes after the first operation and research the value of reoperation in the treatment of recurrent gastric cancer and surgical indications. Methods:Clinical data of 30 patients undergoing reoperation for recurrent gastric cancer from June 2000 to June 2005 were studied retrospectively. The recurrent causes, surgical methods, postoperative complications, and prognosis were also analyzed. The 1, 3,5-year survival rates of 14 cases after radical resection and 28 cases received conservative therapy were compared. Results:Of these 30 patients we found 3 cases of liver invasion,4 cases of transverse colon invasion,7 cases of peritoneal planting,2 cases of pelvic planting,6 cases of spleen, pancreatic tail and diaphragm invasion,19 cases of local lymph nodes positive. Of which 14 patients received radical operation while 16 patients received palliative operation. The 1,3,5-year survival rates of the radical operation group are higher than those of the conservative group. Conclusions:There are many factors in the recurrence of gastric cancer. The prognosis of the patients who received radical operation is better than that of the conservative group. So we should fight for reoperation, improve the curative effect. But we also should control the indication.
