Objective:To explore the clinical characteristics, treatments and post-operative curative effects of mandibular lateral deviation(MLD).Methods:19 cases of MLD were treated from 2004 to 2010 by various surgeries, according to their characteristics of the deformity. The etiological factors, managements, and the effects of therapy were analyzed respectively. Results:There were significant differences in the bilateral vertical lengths of condyloid process and mandibular ramus. The distances between Go to midline turned out longer in deviation side than opposite side, while it were no significant differences after operation. The distances from the chin and midline of lower teeth to ML had significant differences compared with they were in pre-operative A-P head films. All 19 cases had been well corrected by restoring the contour of facial skeleton and oral function with successful surgeries. Conclusions: The patients with MLD treated with different operations according to their clinical characteristics and imaging findings, can be well corrected cooperated with pre-and post-operative orthodontic treatment and the curative effects are stable.
