Objective: To explore the changes of bone marrow stem cell differentiation factor including HGF, FGF-4, EGF and bFGF in the serum of chronic severe hepatitis after the treatment of ALSS, and to evaluate the role of transdifferentiation mechanism in the process of severe liver injury and repair. Methods: Forty two patients with chronic severe hepatitis were divided into two groups: treatment group and control group. The concentration of HGF, FGF-4, EGF and bFGF were detected before and after therapy, respectively. Results: ALSS was effective to increase the serum concentration of HGF heightened from (762.95±810.93)ng/L to (1066.59±873.58)ng/L(P=0.003). Compared with the control group, there was significant increase in the serum concentration of HGF(P=0.033), but not in the serum concentration of FGF-4, EGF and bFGF. Conclusions: ALSS can heighten the serum concentration of HGF, without affecting the serum concentration of FGF-4, EGF and bFGF, which contribute to bone marrow stem cell transdifferentiation mechanisms involved in the hepatocyte regeneration of chronic severe hepatitis.
