Objective: To Analyze the factors that influence the outcome of patients with syncope. Methods: Retrospective analyses were made about 138 cases with patients suffered from syncope during Jan.2004 to Dec.2010. different factors were considered and analyzed as the risk factors between syncope patients diagnosed with different origins. Results: In all the 145 cases investigated, 43 patients were diagnosed cardiogenic syncope,77patients were diagnosed neurogenic syncope, while 25 patients with its diagnose unknown. 66 male and 72 female were involved in the investigation, there's no prognostic differences observed in different sex group(χ~2=2.593,P=0.283)(χ~2=2.407,P=0.136). compared with middle-aged group , the old-aged group seems to have a elevated death rate and recurrent rate(χ~2=15.499,P=0.000)(χ~2=8.707,P=0.005). 13 death cases(33.3%) were observed in cardiogenic group, while only 4 cases(5.3%) of death were observed in neurogenic group and 3 (12.5%)in group with its diagnose unknown, that indicates the existence of cardio diseases have prognostic value in death rate(χ~2=7.902,P=0.007)(χ2=10.852,P=0.001). 8 cases(20.5%) of syncope recurrence were observed in this group, 24cases(32.0%) were observed in neurogenic group and 8 cases(33.3%) observed in diagnosis-unknown group, this shows that the existence of cardio diseases have no prognostic value in recurrence rate(χ2=0.285,P=0.678) (χ~2=0.566,P=0.326). 4cases of death were observed in neurogenic group, much lower than that of cardiogenic group 13cases(33.3%) and diagnosis-unknown group 3cases(12.5%),this indicates the existence of ischemic stroke has no influence to the death rate of patients with syncope(χ~2=1.342,P=0.190)(χ~2=0.097,P=1.0).26 cases of recurrence were observed in neurogenic group, compared with that of cardiogenic group 11cases(28.2%) and diagnosis-unknown group 6 cases(25.0%),this shows that the existence of ischemic stroke has no influence to the death rate of patients with syncope(χ~2=1.187,P=0.192)(χ~2=4.241,P=0.006).Conclusion: Aging and organic heart disease can be considered as risk factors in evaluating the severe outcome of patients with syncope. With the abcesence of organic heart disease the severe outcome of patients with neurogenic syncope is rather less. The frequency of syncope is quite important in discussing the recurrent of syncope. The trauma caused by syncope is much less in patients with neurogenic syncope for the longer duration of prodrome.A proper risk stratification of syncope can help the clinician to make a better follow-up plan for patients with different kinds of syncope, in the hope of improving the prognosis.
