Objectives: To analyze the seeking health behaviors of tuberculosis patients in Chaohu city and study delayed situation and its influence factors, and then reveal the TB control system problems, propose science-based interventions and recommendations for further improve the TB control system, controlling of the occurrence of delay effectively , improve the quality of the implementation of DOTS strategy, establish mechanisms of sustainable development in TB control.Methods: Quantitative and qualitative study were combined to study the seeking health behavior of tuberculosis patients in three regions of Chaohu city in Anhui province.Based on a large number of literature, structured questionnaire were designed to survey patients by face to face and semi-structured interview outline were designed to talk to key informant interview. Questionnaire data was analyzed using quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis methods. Quantitative analysis methods included descriptive statistics (mean, rate, frequency and composition ratio, etc.); single factor analysis (chi-square test); Multivariate analysis (Logistic regression analysis) were conducted.Qualitative analysis methods included the descriptive analysis and typical case study based. Data entry software was EpiData3.1. Data analysis was used by SPSS13.0 statistical software. Results: 750 new patients with pulmonary tuberculosis discovered in Chaohu city were surveyed, with 200 from Juchao district, 250 from Lujiang County,and 300 from Wuwei county.Tuberculosis consultation delay was 15.62 days on average,331 patients were delayed to 14 days, the delayed rate was 44.1%; average diagnosed delay of all tuberculosis patients was 12.37 days, of which 182 cases of patients had the problem of delayed diagnosis, delayed diagnosis rate was 24.3%; average treatment delay of 5.77 days, of which 100 cases (13.3%) patients did not go to the local CDC for treatment after been diagnosed within 14 days. In delayed consultation there were significant difference among patient's gender, age, education, and family size;About delay in diagnosis, there were significant difference among patient's regions, gender, age, educational level, there was no significant difference between profession and delayed diagnosis; there were no significant difference among patient's gender, age, educational level, profession, marital status and family size in treatment delay.In addition, the patient's own subjective and objective reasons of health system also had a certain impact on delay.Conclusions:①Delayed consultation,diagnosis and treatment of new pulmonary tuberculosis was common in Chaohu city. Patients during seeking health will be accompanied by their own delay and health system issues, patients first consultation will be a key factors of detect patients.②Sociology characteristics of the patient population were analysised, such as gender, age, education level affected delay to a certain extent.Women, elderly and illiterate people were at high risk of delayed consultation of tuberculosis, appropriate interventions must be made for them.③Level of knowledge of TB patients was limited, further strengthen health education should be needed to raise public awareness of TB prevention knowledge.④Economic problems, overlook, fearing discrimination, being busy on work and study, self-care, far treatment institutions, inconvenient transportation also contributed to delay of patients.⑤Developing policies and providing services of health systems were unfair,they should increase investment,focus on care for vulnerable groups and strengthen the management of the relevant health institutions to ensure fairness.
