Calculus bovis artifactus recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2010 Edition, for approval number management varieties. Calculus bovis artifactus is the extract ingredients of bile which from pig or ox and made reference to nature Bezoar calculus bovis. The main components in the Calculus bovis artifactus are ox-bile powder, cholic acid, hyodeoxycholic acid, taurine, bilirubin, cholesterol alcohol, trace elements etc. Merchants in the market illegal dyeing Calculus bovis artifactus because its high price. Merchants will get a higher price and more profits to sale Calculus bovis artifactus adulterating with dyes. Nevertheless, Calculus bovis artifactus adulterating with dyes is harmful to human body. This study is aimed at researching Calculus bovis artifactus adulterating with dyes in the market and establishing rapid detection methods of dyes. The near infrared analytical technology was also successfully applied to identify the fake Calculus bovis artifactus, high recognition value was obtained. The research using TLC method on Calculus bovis artifactus adulterating with dyes for qualitative identification of dye components research, using HPLC-DAD detector for a preliminary identification, using HPLC-MS to verify the composition of the dye. At the same time, TLC and HPLC detection methods of bilirubin have been studied. ICP-MS have been used for detection of metallic element in Calculus bovis artifactus. NIR technology used to identify the fake Calculus bovis artifactus. The results showed that the adulterating dyes mostly are Auramine O, Orangeâ…¡and Ponceau 4R. The bilirubin was found in seven samples of totally twenty-three samples and not found in Calculus bovis artifactus adulterating with dyes samples. Six samples burning scraps ablaze over 90%, so we suggested that burning scraps ablaze must not exceed 15.0%. For further study we also used ICP-MS for detection of metallic element in the six samples, the results showed the content of Fe, Mg and Al is extremely high, it could be inorganic salt increase heavy phenomenon. The NIR technology was also successfully applied to identify the fake Calculus bovis artifactus samples, high recognition value was obtained. The method developed is simple and fast, which provides a new quality control method of Chinese herbs. We must improve existing detection standards, make sure drug safety and standardize market order.
