ObjectiveTo observe the curative effect of Confluence Points of the Eight Vessels on Treating the insomnia caused by depression, in order to propose an new clinical protocol of treating depression-insomnia.MethodsThis was a simple randomized controlled trial. Recruited 70 volunteers with depression-insomnia from acupuncture department of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine,1:1 randomized into two groups, 35 cases in each group. The treatment group was treated with acupuncture using Confluence Points of the Eight Vessels, while the control group using "Siguan" points. Treatment group points:Lieque (LU1), Zhaohai (KI6), Baihui (DU20), Yintang (EX-HN3);Control group:Hegu (LI4),Taichong (LR30), Baihui (DU20), Yintang (EX-HN3).Manipulate the needles untill the Qi arrives, and retain the needles for 30 minites. After acupuncture, both of the groups use intradermal needle treatment in Xinshu points, and retained for 3 days each time. The treatment was totally 12 times for one course and must be completed within six weeks. There were at least two days between every two treatment. The curative effect was evaluated by the PSQI scale and HAMD scale before the course, before the sixth treatment, at the end of the course, one month after the course, Side effect and adverse reaction were ready to write down at any time during the research. Using statistical software SPSS16.0 on statistical analysis of data collected.Results(1) Before treatment, there was no statistical discrepancy between the two group in gender, age, disease duration, education level, past treatment history, Traditional Chinese Medicine type, PSQI and HAMD score before the treatment (P>0.05).(2) In contrast with the effective rate before the course, before the sixth treatment, at the end of the course, and one month after the course, the treatment group was:91.4%,94.3%,91.4%, while the control group was 80.0%,85.7%,85.7%. there were no significant differences between them (P>0.05). (3) After treatment, the PSQI Scale scores declined significantly during the course and the follow-up in both two groups (P<0.01), which had statistical difference and meaned both treatment were effective to the insomnia. The treatment group had better effect than the control group, which had statistical difference (P<0.05). (4) In contrast with the treatment group and the control group at HAMD scores, it seemed there were no significant differences between them (P>0.05). The scores declined during the course and the follow-up in both two groups (P<0.05). ConclusionBoth of the groups have precise effect on treating insomnia and depression. The treatment group has better effect on treatment insomnia.
