Objective:To research the growth inhibitory effect of Adiantum reniforme var.sinense to susceptible bacteria in Urinary system in vitro, including antimicrobial activity, Inhibitory species, and effective Inhibitory concentration. It will Provide a scientific basis for the protection, development and application of the rare plants unique to Three Gorges reservoir area. Methods:Agar diffusion method was used to observe the inhibitory effect of the aqueous extract solution to susceptible bacteria in Urinary system. According to the size of inhibition zone, the antimicrobial activity and Inhibitory species of Adiantum reniforme var.sinense were determined. By serial two-fold dilution method, minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the extract were determined. Results:The inhibitory effect of the extracts was obvious on Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but not on Staphy-lococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Candida albicans. It was stronger on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The MIC of the extract to Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were 62.5 and 15.6 mg/ ml respectively. Conclusion:The extract of Adiantum reniforme var.sinense may have the effect of growth inhibition on the Gram-negative bacteria. So it has the potential therapeutic value on Urinary and other system infection.
