Objective:We evaluated the efficacy and safety of retroperitoneoscopic Partial Nephrectomy (LPN) for Renal Tumors.Materials and Methods:clinical date on 28 patients who underwent retroperiton-eoscopic partial nephrectomy were retrospectively compared with those on 24 who underwent open partial nephrectomy (OPN) for renal tumors, including patient demographic date, perioperative indexes and oncologic outcomes. Results:There were no significant difference in age, sex and tumor size in the two groups. Except one patient in the LPN group who was transferred into open surgery because of serious bleeding of the branch of renal artery, all procedures were successful performed. In the comparison of intraoperative parameters the operative time in the LPN group was higher than the OPN group (118.4±16.2min vs.109.3±22.4min), but the difference had no statistical significance. The intraoperative estimated blood loss was comparable between the two groups (142±12 ml vs.126±14ml, P>0.05).The warm ischemia time in the LPN group was 27.6±4.2min, and 18.5±1.8min in the OPN group, the difference was significant. Comparison of postoperative parameters showed that the use of analgesic, resumption of oral intake and postoperative hospital stay were better in the LPN group respectively (P<0.05).The serum creatinine of all patients in the two groups were normal in the postoperative days. No serious complications were occurred, the complication rate was 21.4% in the LPN group, and 20.8% in the OPN group, no differences were observed. During the follow up of 1 to 30 months, no tumor recurrence or metastasis developed in the two groups. Conclusion:Although retroperitoneoscopic partial nephrectomy is a technically challenging procedure, it can be performed in a safe and timely manner with perioperative outcomes comparable to those reported for open approach, with decreased use of analgesic and a shorter hospital stay. Equivalent early oncological outcomes were achieved.
