The Study On The Current Situation Of Non-error Medical Disputes

Objects:Through the analysis of causes of non-error medical disputes, solutions are put forward in order to prevent its occurrence and improve patient relationship.Solutions:There are 289 non-error medical disputes from a survey of 301 cases from some third class A hospital between January 2006 and December 2008. The causes from doctors, patients and social facets are studied and the cause percentage is calculated and compared.Result:The top three departments involved in non-error medical disputes are the surgery department that accounts for 51.5 percent, the internal medicine department that accounts for 31.6 percent, the outpatient clinic and emergency department that each accounts for 10.3 percent respectively. The top three causes from doctors are that medical accident and complication, communication barriers account for 13.3 percent, bad service attitude accounts for 8.3 percent. The top three causes from patients are that information asymmetry accounts for 22.9 percent, making trouble out of nothing accounts for 18.6 percent. Among social causes, untrue media release accounts for 6.7 percent and medical policies account for 5.3 percent.Conclusion:Information asymmetry, making trouble out of nothing and communication barriers are the main causes of non-error medical disputes. We could improve medical technology, service attitude, culture patients and their families to relieve information asymmetry, ensure patients'security and honor, respect patients'informed consent rights and independent option rights, cope with medical disputes in accordance with laws and regulations, extinguish patients'incentives of gaining illegal profits, construct insurance policies against medical risks, complete social welfare, actively induce media and public opinion to the truth, strength medical propaganda to decrease medical disputes.
