Objective 1. To evaluate the effectiveness of SEPS treating the venous ulcer of lower leg; 2. To evaluate the indication of SEPS treating the post thrombosis syndrome with ulcer of lower limb. Methods 69 patients were performed SEPS. Group 1, 22 patients were diagnosed as reflux of deep and communiting veins without ulcer underwent SEPS + saphenous stripping + external banding valvuloplasty of superficial femoral vein. Group 2, 26 patients were diagnosed as reflux of deep and communiting veins with ulcer underwent SEPS + saphenous stripping + external banding valvuloplasty of superficial femoral vein. Group 3, 21 patients were diagnosed as post-thrombosis syndrome of deep veins with ulcer underwent SEPS + saphenous stripping. Throughing statistics the data, observe the indication and the effects to study the effectiveness of SEPS treating the venous ulcer and the post thrombosis syndrome with ulcer of lower limb. Results The processes of all patients were successfully. To taked out stitches after 10 to 14 days of the surgery: 36 legs in all were healed, 10 legs healed in 4 weeks, the remained 3 legs were healed after 75 days, 160 days and 240 days each. Group 1 and 2: no ulcer occurred. Group 3: rate of ulcer recurrence was 9.5%, which was significantly lower than what reported in the references. Conclusion The rate of ulcer recurrence was reduced obviously after SEPS. Using SEPS + saphenous stripping + external banding valvuloplasty of superficial femoral vein can prevent the development of ulcer. SEPS is effective in the treatment of venous ulcer of lower leg.
