To successfully construct social identity plays an important role in individuals becoming socialized, maintaining individuals' ontological security, avoiding ontological inquietude, establishing sense of directions of life and moral and so on. However, social identity is not constant, because it generates in the social relations and in the process of establishing social interactions on the basis of social relations. Social identity will change correspondingly if social relations changes. This thesis will do some researches based on the rationale.Social relations will be embodied essentially only before the bottom line of interests. The event of rural AIDS makes the rural social relations change radically under the action of interest mechanism. Therefore, this thesis regards rural patients with AIDS as the objects of the case study and employs the qualitative research method of combining the positivism and constructivism in order to study how the social identity of rural patients with AIDS transforms under the change of social relations and what is the specific character of the transformation so that to see through the essence of social identity transformation based on this. The second part of this thesis introduces some relative theories of social identity and existent studies of rural residents'social identity. It is found that some of these studies regard rural migrant workers and peasants who lose their lands. And the author puts forwards the reasons to choose the rural patients with AIDS as the objects of this study after analyzing the disadvantages of the present studies. The third part mainly analyzes the specific contents of the social identity transforming of the rural patients with AIDS. The contents mainly concludes several aspects of the village (mechanism) identity transforming to the patient with AIDS, the degree of collective identity being weaker, traditional cultural identity changing to sub-cultural identity of the group of AIDS and the change of the circle of "one of us" identity and so on.The fourth part of this thesis discusses the characters demonstrated by the changes of identity which are made by the rural patients with AIDS as above. The author thinks that the foundations of the changes are more and more profitable rural social relations; secondly, expressing the subjective initiative of the rural patients with AIDS change passive adaptation to positive option in the process of transforming; finally, the key point of transforming identity is to recover the target power of status and normal life. But there are also adverse effects from the deviation of identifying in the process of transforming social identity. The last part reaches the basic situations of the rural residents' identity transformation by means of analyzing cases. The situations mainly includes tools tendency of choosing the objects of identity, involution of the scope of identity and simplifying of levels, meanwhile, there is contradiction between interest identity and the identity of rural common values and rules. Aiming at the possible problems caused by the above identity transformation to rural residents and village order, this thesis suggests to coordinate rural interest relations, to remodel rural residents'social identity and to reconstruct organizing systems corresponding to rural residents'reality and need.
