Introduction:The objective of this study was to evaluate the short-term effects of Fangchinoline,an anti-inflamation drug widely used in China,on root resorption related to orthodontic tooth movement.Methods:24 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 6 groups. Control groups as 0g-(-),0g-(+) and treatment groups as 50g-(-),50g-(+),100g-(-),100g-(+).50 and 100g mesial force were applied to the maxillary first molar so fratusing nickeltitanium closed-coil springs for 14days. Tooth movement of the maxillary first molar was measured in relation to the maxillary second molar on digitized x-ray photographs. The molars were extracted and the surface areas of the root resorption craters were measured using scanning electron microscope. Results:resorption craters areas among different are equal. Fangchinoline could reduce the resorption craters areas but has no affection on tooth movement in all groups. Conclusions:Fangchinoline could be a potential drug for reducing root resorption during orthodontic treatment.
