Objective: To construct human 4, 5 lumbar three-dimensional entity model and finite element model by CT technology, ANASYS and MIMICS, and make stress analysis in lumbar vertebral body 5.Method: A series of 0.6 mm continuous images of L4-5 from a healthy male adult, obtained by CT scanning on supine position, could be imported into PC by DICOM format and construct three-dimensional entity model using MIMICS software. Subsequently, the entity model is imported into ANSYS finite element software to form the 3-D finite element model. And to construct the finite element model, each component of the model is endowed for different material properties, respectively. The stress characteristics of L5 under various operating conditions could be studied by stress analysis based on ANSYS after model validation.Results:1. Human lumbar 4-5 three-dimensional entity model, which could be observed with arbitrary angle and profiles in the computer, was constructed successfully using collected CT values and MIMICS software.2. Human lumbar 4-5 three-dimensional finite element model was constructed by ANSYS software and restricted with material properties and boundary conditions.3. The stress distribution of L5 was successfully mimicked and analyzed under various operating conditions.Conclusion:1. A true and reliable 3D entity model, terms to its anatomic locations and shapes, could be established by using collected CT data from human lumbar images.2. The 3D entity model could successfully analyze the stress distribution of L5 under various operating conditions by analyzing finite element and mimicking different kinds of working conditions.
