Objective To study the association of Caveolin-3 with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Chinese Zhuang population. and find out the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphisms of Caveolin-3 gene in exon and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods The segments of Caveolin-3 sequences were sequenced in 24 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 10 healthy control group from Guangxi zhuang population. The statistics analysis were usedχ~2and Fisher'S exact probability,a=0.05 was the size of test. Results (1) Two polymorphics were found in the second extron of Caveolin-3 untranslated region:12842A→G and 12715A→T. (2)There is no significant difference for the genotypes frequencies at 12842A→G and 12715A→T between the diabetes mellitus and healthy control group(p>0.05), and significant difference are found between the allele frequencies of type 2 diabetes mellitus and healthy control group(p<0.05).(3) There are AT,GT,GA unit genotypes at 12842A→G and 12715A→T position. The unit genotypes(AT,GT,GA) frenquencies were no significantly different from those of the diabetes mellitus and healthy control group(p>0.05), while there were significant difference between AT and GA genotypes(p﹤0.05).Conclusion The polymorphism of the 12842A→G and 12715A→T in the Caveolin-3 gene was shown to be consistent with the type 2 diabetes mellitus , these two sites might be the susceptibility sites of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The precise mechanisms of the polymorphism should be elucidated in further studies.
