Objectives To evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of aliergic rhinitis (AR) treatment by acupoint injection. To review systematically whether there are enough existing evidences that acupoint injection is effective and safe in the treatment. Methods Cochrane Controlled Trials Register (CCTR) (most recent issue),PubMed (1980-2009) and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) (1979~2009),Chinese Biological Medicine database(CBM) (1978-2009),WanFang data (1978~2009)and WeiPu data (1989-2009) were widely referred. The Chinese journals related to TCM during 2009 were searched by hand.Three authors independently assessed trial qualities and extracted data from these Randomized Controlled Trails, then input them into the Mete-analysis by Rev.Men 4.2.10.Results 6 studies were identified. The results of Mete-analysis indicated that better efficacy of treatment by acupoint injection combining west medicine or Chinese patent medicine than single west medicine is obviously demonstrated, and the effects, vary in different Chinese medicine. The methodological qualities are considered low in these studies. Conclusions Based on the aforementioned results, conclusions could be drawn as treatment on AR by acupoint injection combining with west medicine is more effective than that by west medicine. Despite abundant cases involved, defects of low qualities of trials exist. We can not combine the same observation of different Chinese Medicine and different acupoint to analysis because of heterogeneity, so we should be objective for those results.
