Background:Endometriosis(EMs), a common gynecologic disorder, has still an undetermined etiology. Aqaporin(AQP) family has a wide range of funetions:to promote the rapid transport of water; promote cell migration; regulation neural signal transduetion.et al. Studies have shown that AQPs play an important role in many female diseases of reproductive system. It indicates that AQPs are may related toEMs.Objective:To investigate the expression of AQP2 and AQP8 in eutopic and ectopic endometrium from women with and without endometriomas to elucidate a possible impact of AQP2 and AQP8 on this disease.Meterials and Methods:AQP2 and AQP8 mRNA and protein expression in 19 samples of eutopic (Eu-Em group) and 19 samples of ectopic (Ec-Em group) endometrial tissue and 15 healthy (Co-Em group) endometrial tissue were confirmed by realtime reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and western blot. Results:In eutopic endometrial tissue from women with endometriomas, no difference in mRNA and protein level was observed when compared with endometrial tissue from healthy control. However, in ectopic endometrial tissue, AQP2 and AQP8 were found in lower protein level, whereas AQP2 mRNA level was higher and AQP8 lower. Conclusions:AQP2 and AQP8 may play an important role in leading to and developing endometriomas.
