Study On Genuine Regional Materia Medica By Chorography In Certain Regions During The Ming And Qing Dynasties

Focused on genuine regional Materia Medica in Sichuan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Henan, Zhejiang, and Shandong province of China, this article used the method of bibliography to study the outline of genuine regional Materia Medica recorded in local topographies in Ming and Qing dynasty.Through sorting and analyzing relative literatures recorded in these local topographies, we found that medicinal resources of the above-mentioned eight areas have been fully discovered and gradually formed a relatively major-scale habitat of medicines. Many genuine regional Material Medica were formed and become prosperous in this period of time, such as Prepared Common Monkshood Daughter Root, Szechwan Lovage Rhizome, Magnolia Bark, Eucommia Bark produced in Sichuan; Villous Amomum Fruit, Tangerine Pericarp, Sanchi, and Mornda Root produced in Guangdong and Guangxi; Indian Bread produced in Yunnan; Tall Gastrodis Tuber produced in Guizhou; Common Yan Rhizome, Twotoothed Achyranthes Root, Chrysanthemun Flower, and Rehmannia Root produced in Sichuan; Largehead Atractylodes Rhizome, White Peony Alba, Yanhusuo and Turmeric Root Tuber produced in Zhejiang; Honeysuckle Flower and Root of Straight Ladybell produced in Shandong, etc. These producing regions have been in stable till today after hundreds years'development in Ming and Qing dynasty. The author believed that Ming and Qing dynasty are major period for the establishment and development of genuine regional material medica. This article made a deep discussion on the importance, formation, transition, connotation and evaluation criterion of genuine regional material medica on the basis of social background of Ming and Qing dynasty and previous researches, and put forward that significance of genuine regional material medica lies in its clinical therapeutic effects, the formation and transition of genuine regional material medica are mutual determined by natural environment and human society, with human society playing a even greater impact on them.
