The artificial knee joint design and manufacture are crossover fields withmultidisciplinary, which involves to joint surgery, biomedicine, mechanics, medical imagingand CAD model restructuring, it is the co-crystallization of medicine and engineeringmechanics. The dominant position in home market is occupied by the imported joint product,which has high price. The European and American size is taken as the basis to design theimported joint, which don't suit our size. The artificial knee joint made in China has low lifeand high reconditioning rate. Therefore there are important social significance and value todevelop the artificial knee joint design and manufacture based on RE/RP technology.The imported joint is taken as design prototype and a new kind of design thought isproposed in this article. The main research contents are as following:1. Artificial knee joint's research status, the exist question in joint design and manufactureare expounded. RE/RP concept as well as research status in home and abroad are researched inthe article. The framework of RE/RP technology integration system is discussed.2. The artificial knee joint design theories and requirements are proposed based on humanknee joint's organizational structure and the function, the artificial knee joint design cycle isdecribed.3. Firstly, the DIGIMETRIC system is used to gather the prosthesis data, thenGEOMAGIC STUDIO software is applied to carry on the data and the CAD model isreconstructed finally. Secondly, CT scanning technique is used to get image of human kneejoint, then MIMICS software is used to deal with the data and CAD model is reconstructedfinally. Thirdly, the above models are imported through PRO/E port and finish modelassembly.4. Application theory of finite element analysis software ANSYS in biological mechanicsis elaborated, the step of carring on biological mechanics analysis is introduced using thesoftware. The stress distribution of the prosthesis and human joint model is analyzed usingANSYS software based on the organizational structure research of human joint.5. Application theory of dynamics simulation software LIFEMOD in biologicalmechanics is elaborated. Dynamics simulation of the artificial knee joint is finished usingLIFEMOD software based on the movement function research of human joint.6. The suitable moulding is selected to deal with MEM craft model of femur based onprosthesis structure, the step and process are expounded and the product rapid manufacturingis achieved.
