Objective To explore the radial and ulnar arteries inner diameter in Guangxi population between the Han people and the Zhuang people.Methods A total of 1346 in patients underwent scheduled first time transradial coronary angiography between July 2007 and September 2010 were enrolled.Patients were divided to two groups:the Han people (n=1070:Male 843, female 227 ) and the Zhuang people(n=276: male 226, female 50).All People's radial and ulnar arteries inner diameters were measured by using a computer assisted quantification method.Results The two groups in age, sex, height, weight, body mass index, body surface area, coronary heart disease risk factors (hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, smoking) were no significant difference (P > 0.05). In Guangxi population,there did not differ significantly in diameters of the forearm arteries:the mean radial arterie inner diameter was 3.04±0.43mm( 3.04±0.43mm in han ;3.05±0.42mm in zhuang respectively,P >0.05). In the Guangxi population ,86.1% of males and 57.3% of females' radial arterie inner diameter was not less than 6F Cordis sheaths;59.3% of males and 24.8% of females' radial arterie inner diameter was not less than 7F Cordis sheaths, respectively. The mean ulnar arterie inner diameter was 3.03±0.37mm(3.03±0.38mm in han ;3.05±0.36mm in zhuang respectively,P >0.05 ). In the subgroup analysis ,artery diameter of men between the Han and Zhuang (radial artery diameter: Han 3.12±0.41mm VS Zhuang 3.12±0.39mm, P > 0.05; ulnar artery diameter: Han 3.10±0.36mm VS Zhuang 3.12±0.34mm , P > 0.05), artery diameter of women between the the Han and Zhuang (radial artery diameter: Han 2.75±0.38mm VS Zhuang 2.75±0.39mm, P > 0.05; ulnar artery diameter: Han 2.75±0.31mm VS Zhuang 2.76±0.31mm, P > 0.05).The factors found to affect the size of the radial artery were sex( b j'=0.309,P <0.01),weight( b j'=0.103,P <0.01)and Diabetes mellitus( b j'=-0.088,P <0.01),Diabetes mellitus was found to negatively affect radial artery size.Conclusion The radial and ulnar arteries inner diameter in Guangxi population between the Han people and the Zhuang people was no significant difference, which men of the radial and ulnar artery diameter was significantly larger than the female. In Guangxi , most of the population by using 6Fsheath or guiding catheter in the transradial coronary angiography or transradial interventional is safe, some of people using 7F sheath or guiding catheter are also available.
