Survey On The High-risk Sexual Behavior And The Quality Of Life(QOL) Among Men Who Have Sex With Men In 7 Cities, In China

Objectives To know the characteristic of high risky behaviors and the status of quality of life(QOL) among men who have sex with men(MSM) and to determine the relationship between the high-risk behaviors and the status of quality of life.Method With the help of the boss of"gay bars", the survey was conducted anonymously among 339 MSM in"gay bars"in 7 cities, in China mainland. The content of the survey included the demography characteristic, the STI infection, the knowledge related to HIV/AIDS, the characteristic of sexual partners, the high risky behaviors and the QOL of participants.Results Among 339 participants, the average age is 27.81±7.15. Of the participants, 55 are the students, accouts for 16.2% and 103(30.4%) had high education. The income each month, 86.7% of the participants had more than 2000 yuan RMB. Among the parictipants, 273(80.50%) are unmarried. With the sexual identity, 70.50% is homosexual, 23.90% is biseuxal. The average number of male sexual partners is 12.79±12.89 and 127(37.46%) of paticipants had female sexual partners, the average is 3.46±4.22(1-20). In the last two months, 285(84.07%) participants have male sexual partners, and the average number is 3.66±4.77. The condom use rate is 70.9% during the sexual intercourse with male commercial partners, 50.5% with male sexual partners, and 26.7% with female sexual partners respectively. The Cronbach'sαof the Scale of Quality of Life (QOL) is 0.709, 0.729, 0.671 and 0.809 for Physio-factor, psycho-factor, social relationship and envirenmental factor, respectively. The scores of physio-factor, psycho-factor, social relationship and envirenmental factor are 67.56±14.45 ,62.01±15.76,65.14±18.81 and 58.00±15.64 respectively and the scores of total of QOL is 63.18±13.45. Among 339 participants, 45 were ever diagnosised STIs, the report rate of STI infection is 13.3% , 246(77.9%) know the service of voluntary counseling testing (VCT), and 160 (47.2%) seeked for the VCT service. The high risk behaviors and multi-sexual partners associated with the scores of QOL.Conclusions Multi-sexual partners and high risky sexual behaviour are common and the high risky sexual beharvior is associated with the score of QOL. The mental health should be paid a close attention during the behavior interveniton among MSM in the future.
