ObjectiveTo investigate the current situation of nutritional knowledge, attitude and dietary behavior and habits of different residents in Meizhou city, and discuss Influences of sex, age, educational background, and occupation on them.MethodsThe stratified multistage random sampling method was used to select survey subjects. Then questionnaires were handed out, filled in by all survey subjects on condition of anonymity, and withdrawn on-the-spot. Survey subjects were chosen as follows:the first step, six districts were selected from Meijiang District in Meizhou as the sample district; the second step, three villages or community neighborhood committees were selected randomly from each sample district, totally 18 villages or community neighborhood committees; the third step,50 key families were selected randomly from each village or community neighborhood committee, totally 900 families. Finally, one person, with his or her birthday date most closed to the investigation date, was selected from each key family, totally 900 survey subjects. Among them,424 were male (47.1%),476 were female (52.9%), aged from 18 to 69 years old(average 45.6 years). Finally, all data of questionnaires were inputted into EPIDATA3.02 data base. The SPSS13.0 statistical software was used to analyze these data.Results(1)Nutritional knowledge:None of the survey subjects had all correct answers. The number of qualified subjects was 607 persons (passing rate,67.4%), and the number of out-standing was 498 persons (excellence rate,55.3%); only 47(5.2%) respondents had a good understanding of Chinese Residents Dietary Guidelines and Chinese Residents Balance Diet Baota. The passing rate was significantly different among people with various educational background, occupation, sex, age and living region (P<0.05). (2)Nutritional attitude:The majority of the survey subjects had a positive nutritional attitude. The passing rate and the excellence rate of nutritional attitude test were 90.3% and 81.7%, respectively. In the survey,93.7% of survey subjects were very interested in nutritional knowledge.94.4% of survey subjects would change their irrational dietary behavior and habits. More than 70% of survey subjects selected TV, Internet, newspaper and journal in access to nutrition-related knowledge.(3)Dietary behavior and habits:None of the survey residents accord with the dietary criterion of Chinese Residents Dietary Guidelines or Chinese Residents Balance Diet Baota in this survey. The passing rate of the dietary behavior and habits test was 57.9%. In general, the residents have a unhealthy dietary behavior and habits and did not pay attention to their weight. Their consumption of rice and vegetable was enough. Most residents had their breakfast regularly.Conclusions(1)Most survey subjects had a poor understanding of nutritional knowledge in Meizhou city, and there were significant differences about nutritional knowledge among people with various educational background, occupation, age, sex and living region.(2)The majority of residents showed a positive attitude to learn nutritional knowledge in Meizhou city, but they still have not possessed a healthy dietary behavior and habits.
