Objective HB-EGF is a member of the epidermal growth factor family, possess the potent mitogenic, proliferative and chemotactic activity to the vascular smooth muscle cells, that has been associated with atherogenesis.C-reactive protein (CRP) ,as a classic inflammatory marker and an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease is an acute-phase protein that is synthesized in the hepatocyte. The study is to investigate the relationship of serum HB-EGF, hs-CRP and coronary heart disease(CHD).Methods 118 kinless subjects of An Hui Medical University Cardiology in this study, including 22normals(NC) and 96 cases diagnosed as CHD. According to body mass index(BMI) CHD group was divided into A and B groups, A group of BMI≥24 kg/m2; B group of BMI 18.5 ~ 24 kg/m2.Blood glucose (BG), plasma lipid (TG, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, VLDL-C) levels were measured using radioimmunity approach.Body height and weight were determined for computing bady mass glucse(BMI).Waist circumference and Hip circumference were determined for computing Waist-hip ratio(WHR).Double-antibody sandwich ABC-ELISA method was used to dedect the two groups of serum samples HB-EGF, hs-CRP levels. The levels of the two samples of serum HB-EGF and hs-CRP were analysed to clinical data, biochemical indicators. Results (1) Levels of serum HB-EGF and hs-CRP were significantly higher in CHD group as compared with those in control group (P<0.01). (2) Levels of serum HB-EGF and hs-CRP were significantly higher in A group as compared with those in B group (P<0.01). (3)Correlation analyses indicated that the level of serum HB-EGF was associated with BMI,WHR and DM positively, level of serum hs-CRP was associated with BMI and WHR positively. (4) Multiple linear regression analysis showed that WHR,BMI and level of serum HB-EGF,hs-CRP had significant influence on CHD(P<0.01). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed WHR and level of serum level of hs-CRP were the independent risk factors for the prevalence of CHD.Conclusions (1) Levels of serum HB-EGF and hs-CRP were closely associated with CHD. (2) The elevated hs-CRP level may be a bio marker of CHD,so as to high WHR.
