ObjectiveTo study the efficacy and safety of Oxcarbazepine in the treatment of primary trigeminal neuralgia.MethodsSixty primary trigeminal neuralgia patients were randomly divided into three groups:Group O(Oxcarbazepine), Group B (ethanol injection nerve block) and Group OB(oxcarbazepine and nerve block). And we evaluate the degree of the patients'pain relief between pretherapy and posttherapy seperately after the first week, second week and the fourth week by VAS.ResultsThe patients of group O have a slow relief of pain, but all of them have a effictive relief. Group B receive a significant pain relief after the first week, the second week and the fourth week, except of the primary stage. The VAS of group OB have a significant decreasement between posttherapy and pretherapy(P< 0.05),and group OB receive a better relief than group B and O (P< 0.05). The three groups all exist some adverse side effects, especially in the group O when the patients receiving large dose of drugs. And the group OB receive the least adverse side effects among the three groups.ConclusionThe effect of oxcarbazepine combined with ethanol injection nerve block has a effective and safe therapy in primary trigeminal neuralgia treatment, and the efficacy is better than oxcarbazepine or ethanol injection nerve block singly.
