ObjectiveOne of the main objectives of root canal preparation is to clean and shape the root canal system while maintaining the original configuration. Even though it is a challenge to achieve optimum cleaning and shaping, especially in curved canals, a continuously tapering, conical, funnel-shaped canal with the smallest diameter at the end point and the largest at the orifice has been perceived to be the most appropriate for filling with gutta-percha. The introduction of nickel-titanium (NiTi) alloy for the manufacture of various types of endodontic instruments has greatly simplified the shaping of the curved root canal. The purpose of this study was to assess the sealing ability of three kinds of NiTi alloys (ProTaper, Mtwo and K3) by a quantitative method using GOD.MethodSixty extracted single root tooth (10mm long) were selected for this study, after calculus and soft tissues on the surface being removed, the tooth were stored in 4% formaldehyde solution. Then they were randomly divided into three groups, twenty in each group. Pulps in each group were prepared with three different kinds of NiTi alloys, and were filled with gutta-percha alone. After the endodontic microleakage being established, GOD method was used for determination of the apical leakage of each sample at the 1st,4th,7th and 20th day.ResultsThere was no obvious leakage at the 1st, There was a small amount leakage at 4th day, but no clinically significance。At the 7th and 20th day, obvious leakage was found, and the data increased with time. After analyzed with SPSS, there was no significant difference (p>0.05) among three groups.Conclusion1. After prepared with three different kinds of NiTi alloys, leakage was found in each group, and the data of leakage increased with time.2. After analyzed with SPSS, results showed that there was no significant difference among the test groups.
