Multiple sclerosis is the demyelinating disease of central nervous system. Because its cilinical and spacious is various, it's difficult for early diagnosis. The purpose of this research is to enhance the diagnosis and judge the prognosis. We retrospectively analyse the clinical characteristics, CSF, inmaging and every patients'expanded disability status scale (EDSS) scale of 121 MS patients from 2007-2010. Through comparing the EDSS scale with different sexes, ages, courses, the initial symptoms and the clinical types, We tried to conclude some useful information for clinical doctors. We summarized the clinical characters of 121 multiple sclerosis cases which totally included 41 male and 80 female in the ratio of 1:1.95. The onset age ranged from 16 to 63 years old. The mean onset of the total is 40.60, with the peak onset between 20-50 years . 17.36% onset for the first time or relapse in certain motivation such as cold, fever and so on. The onset symptoms were mostly acute (30.58%) or subacute (42.15%). Relapsing-remitting MS is the mostly clinical type (70 cases, 57.85%). There is no difference between age, sex, course and the initial symptoms of different clinical type. Limb weakness (59 cases, 48.76%), sensory impairment (42 cases, 34.71%), visual disturbance (12cases, 9.92%) and brainstem and cerebellum symptoms (28 cases,23.14%) were found as the initial symptoms. Symptoms of nervous system: Limb weakness (93/121, 76.86%) is the mostly common. With gloves, sock-like sensory dysfunction (11cases,9.09%).White blood cell amount of CSF was normal or lightly increased, there was no cases with WBC more than 50X106. Protein was normal or lightly increased, IgG is mostly increased.MRI is the most valuable check way. The positive rate of spine MRI is 98.51% and brain MRI is 93.33%. The major lesions usually located in cerebral stem , corona radiata, the periventriclular white matter, the basal ganglia area.We give every patient EDSS scale,finding:①Before treatment and after treatment, there is no difference of EDSS score between the male and female (P>0.05).②Before and after treatment, the EDSS score of patients with age<40 is lower than with age>40 (P<0.05).③The course is longer, the prognosis is worse.④After treatment, the EDSS score with brainstem and cerebellum symptoms, visual disturbance as the initial symptoms is lower than limb weakness and sensory impairment (P<0.05). The change of EDSS score with brainstem and cerebellum symptoms as the initial symptoms is higher than limb weakness and sensory impairment (P<0.05).⑤Before treatment and after treatment, the EDSS score of RRMS is lower than PPMS and SPMS (P<0.05). The change of EDSS score of RRMS is higher than PPMS and SPMS (P<0.05).Research conclusions:(1) There are more female than male in patients with multiple sclerosis. The peak onset age is between 20-50 years, Courses are different。(2) The onset symptoms were mostly acute or subacute. MS is usually involved with the motivation.(3) Limb weakness is the commonest initial symptom. Some patients with MS have impairment of PNS.(4) Relapsing-remitting MS is the mostly clinical type. There is no difference between age, sex, course and the initial symptoms of different clinical type.(5) The pressure of CSF is usually normal. White blood cell amount of CSF was normal or lightly increased. Protein is usually normal , IgG is mostly increased. (6) MRI is the most valuable check way, The commonest lesions are located in spinal,. but cerebellum is seldom involved.(7) Prognosis of MS is unrelated with sex. Age<40years,the shorter course, brainstem and cerebellum symptoms as the initial symptoms and RRMS make prognosis better. Limb weakness as initial symptom make prognosis worse.
