Objective: To survey the status of self-management, self-efficacy and health in patients with the Self-Management Scale of patients with Nephrotic Syndrome, the General Self-Efficacy Scale and the MOS 36-item short Form Health Survey, to evaluate the effect of self-management intervention and to study the relationship between the self-management level and the health condition in patients with Nephrotic Syndrome. Methods: Data from 140 patients with Nephrotic Syndrome who were cured in the first affiliated hospital of Guangxi medical university from June 2008 to April 2009 with the Self-Management Scale of patients with Nephrotic Syndrome, the General Self-Efficacy Scale made by Zhang Jianxin from Hong Kong in 1995 and the MOS 36-item short Form Health Survey made by Li Lu from Zhejiang Medical University. The study population was divided into experimental group and control group randomly. Each group included 70 patients. The self-management intervention was used in experimental group, general guidance was used in control group. After 6 months, the data from two groups was collected again, which was analysised with SPSS 13.0. Percentage and mean plus-minus standard deviation were used in descriptive information. T-test, chi-square test and Pearson correlation analysis were used in inferential analysis.Results:1 The Self-Management Scale of patients with Nephrotic Syndrome had satisfying reliability and validity. The test-retest reliability of the scale was 0.804. The overall questionnaire Cronbach,αcoefficient was 0.847, and the coefficients of the 4 dimensions were 0.704~0.776.It confirmed that the questionnaire had good construct validity through the inter-factor correlation analysis and analysis of the correlation matrix between the factors. It confirmed that the questionnaire had good theoretical validity through factor analysis.2 Among of 42.19% of patients with Nephrotic Syndrome had bad self-management ability and Among of 54.69% of patients had moderate self-management ability, only 3.13% of patients had good self-management ability. Among of 58.59% of patients had low confidence, 32.03% of patients had higher confidence, only 9.38% of patients had good confidence. Their health status were not good.3 It had positive correlation between the self-efficacy and self-management ability of the patients with Nephrotic Syndrome. It had moderate correlation between the self-efficacy and the factors of food self-management, treatment of self-management and overall self-management. It had low correlation between the self-efficacy and the factors of Psychological self-management and living self-management.4 It had positive correlation between the self-management ability and health of the patients with Nephrotic Syndrome.Conclusion:1 The Self-Management Scale of patients with Nephrotic Syndrome has satisfying reliability and validity. It is available to measure the self-management ability of patients with Nephrotic Syndrome, to find the shortages in the field and evaluate the effect of the health education.2 The self-management level of the patients with Nephrotic Syndrome is in medium biase or poor. Their confidence are low. Their health status are not good.3 It has positive correlation between the self-efficacy and self-management ability of the patients with Nephrotic Syndrome.4 It has positive correlation between the self-management ability and health of the patients with Nephrotic Syndrome. The higher of self-management ability, the better of their health. With improved self-management level, the health status and the quality of life of the patients with Nephrotic Syndrome can be improved and the social cost of health resources can be reduced.
