Objective To survey the status quo of post-traumatic stress disorder of the ambulance nurses in the general hospital in Linyi city; to explore the impact of the traumatic events, coping style, social support on the level of post-traumatic stress disorder; to know about impact of post-traumatic stress disorder on the quality of life of the ambulance nurses; to provide the basis of the surveillance, the prevention and the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder for the ambulance nurses, aimed to maintain and promote physical and mental health of the first-line emergency nursing personnel on the firing lining. Methods:Using cluster sampling method, ambulance nurses of five general hospitals in Linyi City were randomly selected as research sample involved in the survey, at the same time an equal number of general medicine nurses in the same hospitals was taken as a contrast. A total number of 240 nurses participated in and fill out the questionnaire,202 usable questionnaires recovered, including 104 valid questionnaires from emergency department and 98 questionnaires from general medicine nurses. The effective recovery rate is 84.17%. The questionnaire included general self-compiled questionnaires, self-compiled incident stress questionnaire, PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version(PCL-C), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, (SCSQ)Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS) and Summary of Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF). The data was analyzed through Spss17.0 statistical software. The statistical methods included statistics description, T-test, pearson correlation,chi-square test, multiple linear regression.Results:1. The positive rate of post-traumatic stress disorder of the ambulance nurses in the five general hospitals of Linyi City was 20.2%(21/99), while that of the general medicine nurses was 13.5%(13/96).2. Of all the traumatic events experienced by ambulance nurses, the first three events which have a greater impact on the level of post-traumatic stress disorder were respectively the rescue of the emergent cardio-cerebral vascular patients, abuse of patients or their family and the patients' sudden death due to changes in condition of the illness.3. There's no significant difference in the active coping style scores between ambulance nurses and the control group of general medicine nurses. The negative coping scores of ambulance nurses was 1.25±0.55 points, higher than that of the general nurses,1.07±0.63 points.4. With PCL-C as the dependent variable, multivariate linear regression analysis were done and negative coping, total social support and stress from nursing special patient, workplace violence entered the regression equation. These four factors combined could explain 43.2% variance of post-traumatic stress disorder level.5. With PCL-C as the dependent variable, multivariate linear regression analysis were done and negative coping, total social support and stress from nursing special patient, workplace violence entered the regression equation. These four factors combined could explain 43.2% variance of post-traumatic stress disorder level.6. Significant negative correlations (- 0.24~-0.35) were found between the scores of PCL-C and WHOQOL-BREF.Conclusion:1.The pre-hospital emergency nurses of the five general hospitals in Linyi City have relative higher level of post-traumatic stress disorder,The positive rate of post-traumatic stress disorder was 20.21%(21/99). The influential factors were traumatic events and negative coping stlye. 2. Traumatic events were the main reasons of post-traumatic stress disorder. The rescue of the emergent cardio-cerebral vascular patients, abuse from patients or their family and the patients'sudden death were the three kinds of traumatic events which had significant impact on the level of post-traumatic stress disorder.3. Total social support is prtective factor preventing PTSD. Negtive coping style is risk factor of PTSD,which may aggravate PTSD symptoms.4. PTSD has dramatic effect on ambulance nurses'quality of life. PTSD-positive ambulance nurses'scores of subject feelings of the quality of life, as well as the scores of psychology, social relations, and environmental dimension, were lower than the PTSD-negative group.
