ObjectiveMMPs as an important enzyme degradation of ECM in the wound healing process may play an important role. Present on the cleft lip skin scar and mucous membranes scar, the different specific expression between matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) which involved in collagen metabolism, which reveals a law, will help reveal the lip scar formation of skin and mucous membranes, whether the expression of MMPs is closely related to how much the scar formation.MethodsChoose of 17 cases of nasolabial deformity patients, and extraction of skin or mucous membrane areas scar tissue, by immunohistochemistry test used to detect the different of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 expression in those tissue.ResultsIn upper lip skin scar tissue and the oral mucosa scar MMP-2 expression in the scar were markedly increased, but there is no difference between the oral mucosa scar and the upper lip on the expression of MMP-2. In upper lip skin scar tissue and the oral mucosa scar TIMP-2 expression in the scar were markedly increased, but there is no difference between the oral mucosa scar and the upper lip on the expression of TIMP-2.Conclusion1.There is difference between upper lip skin scar and oral mucosa scar on histology.2. MMP-2 protein is highly expressed in both upper lip skin scar and oral mucosa scar, and significantly higher than the control group in the normal tissue, indicating scar formation and MMP-2 may be relevant. But the expression of MMP-2 protein levels between the upper lip skin and oral mucosa scar are not significantly different.3. TIMP-2 protein was expressed in both upper lip scar and oral mucosa scar, but there is no difference between the oral mucosa scar and the upper lip on the expression of TIMP-2.
