BackgroundDespite the increasing use of EUS-guided FNA. there are few studies regarding the risk of bacteremia and infective complications after EUS-guided FNA, especially for pancreas. Thus, it is necessary to prospectively study the frequency of bacteremia and potential method of reducing bacterial infection after EUS--guided FNA.MethodsThere are 20 healthy adult dogs are randomly assigned to control group and experimental group. The dogs of experimental group accept 10ml 0.5% povidone-iodine solution washing gastrointestinal mucosa, when the other group is dealed with 10ml 0.9% saline solution. Blood cultures were obtained immediatelv before the procedure, after routine EUS.5 minutes,15minutes and 30minutes after EUS-guided FNA.ResultsThere are 3 true-positive bacteremia in control group compared to 1 true-positive bacteremia in experimental group, and there is no statistically significant between two groups.ConclusionThere is no statistically significant in frequency of bacteremia between experimental group and control group, thus 0.5% povidone-iodine solution washing gastrointestinal mucosa can't reduce bacterial infection after EUS-guided FNA.
