ObjectiveTo investigate the improvement in blood glucose fluctuations of diet therapy on gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), as assessed by continuous glucose monitoring system(CGMS).MethodsThe 8 GDM patients who accepted diet therapy only were assessed by continuous blood glucose monitoring for 72 hours, at the same time diet therapy was started. Measurements of parameters for blood glucose fluctuation of the first and third 24 hours were analyzed and compared.ResultsIn all patients, diet therapy reduced the parameters for measuring blood glucose fluctuation, including mean amplitude of glycemic excursion, range of glycemic fluctuation, area under the curve, postprandial glucose excursion, the time interval from meal to peak postprandial glucose levels and postprandial glucose peak, but there were no statistically significant except the range of glycemic fluctuation. And there were no obvious difference for the number of glucose excursions.ConclusionsThe improvement in blood glucose fluctuations of diet therapy on gestational diabetes mellitus could be observed by CGMS in the short term.
