ObjectivePreliminary study of prevention of octreotide on irinotecan induced delayed diarrhea intestinal mucositis in mice.Materials and Methods20 healthy Kunming mice were randomized into 4 groups:control group, irinotecan group, octreotide group and irinotecan and octreotide group. We observe the occurrence of delayed diarrhea, sacrifice the mice on day 8, collect the small intestines and colons and evaluate the mucositis according to Chiu criteria under light microscope.ResultsCompared with mice in irinotecan group, mice in octreotide and irinotecan group has less incidence of delayed diarrhea and alleviated intestinal mucositis. (P<0.05).ConclusionsTo some extent, octreotide could prevent irinotecan induced delayed diarrhea and alleviate intestine and colon mucositis.
