ObjectiveBurst detection is a method to detect emerging research hotspots. It achieves its goal through counting up the bursty words with low frequency yet informational significance according to the word frequency. The drugs of systemic inflammatory response syndrome were taken as examples in the research, and the method of burst detection was employed to combine bursty word analysis and high-frequency word analysis together to discuss the development trend of the drug therapy of systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Hence, a decision-making service for developing new drugs of systemic inflammatory response syndrome was provided, and reliable bases for making use of burst detection to do information research were established at the same time.Materials and methodsThe thesis took the literatures of the last 10 years on drug therapy for systemic inflammatory response syndrome in PubMed as the research samples, and made use of SemRep and SemRep Semantic Processing System to extract the concepts presenting treat relation in the titles and abstracts of the literatures. The frequencies of the concepts in each year were led into Access Database, and the weights of the burst could be counted up through Java Language Program accessing to the database. The concepts were ranged from high weight of the burst and frequency to the low ones, and the research hotspots and key points were explored through some analyses and contrasts. ResultsTotally 4623 related literatures were retrieved from PubMed, and 776 valid concepts were obtained through SemRep and SemRep Semantic Processing System. The frequencies of the concepts in each year and the weights of the burst were counted up and ranged from the high to the low. Through some analyses and contrasts, the results are presented:the bigger the weight of the burst is, the more possible the drug can be the research hotspot in the field of systemic inflammatory response syndrome on drug therapy; the higher the frequency is, the more possible the drug can be the research key point in the field of systemic inflammatory response syndrome on drug therapy.ConclusionsThe method of burst detection applies to the exploration of the frontiers in some research fields, which exceeds the traditional method of high-frequency words analysis. The method of burst detection is employed to explore the research trend of systemic inflammatory response syndrome on drug therapy. It provides a new attempt to knowledge discovery in text.
