Comparison Between Two Mini-insicion Blepharoplasty And Other Double Eyelid Operations

Background:Single eyelids are a characteristic feature of Asian people. Nowadays double-eyelid surgery is the most popular and common aesthetic surgical procedure in China. A variety of procedures of double-eyelid operations are used, like cutting technique, buried ligature technique, suture technique, and techniques using other surgical tool like the CO2 laser. These years cutting technique and buried ligature technique are still the main surgical techniques. However, in order to minimizes tissue injury, achieve satisfactory aesthetic results, and make a durable, natural-looking fold, limited-incision methods are developing. We use two mini-insicion blepharoplasty from 2002.The method is that:The line of predetermining double eyelid was set in routine. The incisions with 2mm long would be made in medial and lateral third of the line after local anesthesia, cutting the oculi orbicularis muscle and connective tissues that in the down rim of the incisions. Excessive fats also released from the orbital septum in patients with swelling blepharon. Then performed skin-aponeurosis-skin suturings for each eye twice.MethodsA total of 664 patients (58 male,606 female; aged from 18 to 41) were operated on from October of 2002 through December of 2009. All the cases were divided into three groups according to the different double-fold eyelid shape taking operations:The two mini-insicion blepharoplasty was performed on 251 patients, the double-eyelid operation with cutting technique was performed on 331 patients, and the double-eyelid operation with buried ligature technique was performed in 82 patients. Compared the difference on the rates of postoperative complications and the rates of patients'satisfaction with the result among the three groups.ResultThe follow-up period ranged from 2 months to 6 months. The rate of patients'satisfaction in the two mini-insicion blepharoplasty group was 97.79%, the rate in cutting technique group was 94.06%, and the rate in buried ligature technique group was 92.73%. The rate of patients' satisfaction in the two mini-insicion blepharoplasty group was higher than the other two groups with significant difference(P<0.05). The rate of postoperative complications in the two mini-insicion blepharoplasty group was 0.85%, the rate in cutting technique group was 1.05%, and the rate in buried ligature technique group was 7.27%. The rate of postoperative complications in the two mini-insicion blepharoplasty group, compare with cutting technique group had no significant difference, but was lower than buried ligature technique group with significant difference(P<0.05).ConclusionsComparing with cutting technique and buried ligature technique,the two mini-insicion blepharoplasty is a simple effective and safe procedure that minimizes tissue injury with lower rate of postoperative complications and higher rate of patients'satisfaction.
