Objective:To investigate the correlation of somatostatin(SST) and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2(VEFGR2) with angiogenesis in the issues of pancreatic carcinoma and study and their association with the clinicopathologic characters. Methods:The expressions of SST and VEFGR2 were examined in formalin-fixed paraffin embedded samples of 62 patients with pancreatic carcinoma by SP immunohistochemical method. Microvessel density was determined by immunostaining for factor CD34 related antigen. The relationships between the three items and clinical characters were analysied, such as the size of tumor, pathological grade, distant metastasis and lymphatic metastasis. Results:MVD is higher in VEGFR2 high and middle expression cases than in low expression cases(P<0.01),and vice versa for SST expression. The expression of VEGFR2 was correlated with MVD, the size of tumor and distant metastasis. The the expression of SST was correlated with MVD, the size of tumor and pathological grade. A correlation was found between the expression of MVD and the size or distant metastasis of pancreatic carcinoma(P<0.05).In pancreatic carcinoma, the expression of VEGFR2 was positively correlated with MVD(r=0.612, P<0.01), and vice versa for SST expression(r=-0.546, P<0.01). The expression of SST was negative correlated with MVD(r=-0.701, P<0.01)Conclusion:The VEGFR2 and SST regulates and controls the angiogenesis in pancreatic carcinoma. SST and VEGFR2 are closed related to the occurrence, development and metastasis of pancreatic carcinoma, they can be used as a major parameter for detecting biological behavior of pancreatic carcinoma.
