Predictors Of Condom Use Intention Among Chinese College Students: Based On The Extend Theory Of Planned Behavior

Theory of planned behavior is an effective theory to predict the safe sexual behavior intention. Attitude, subjective norms and perceived control are the predictors of behaviors in theory of planned behavior. Researchers have extended and improved it in recent years, they thought the affect of descriptive norms and prototype perception should be considered. Descriptive norms and prototype was two important factors in prototype/willingness model. This study tries to use the extend theory of planned behavior to explore college students' condom use intention. According to open end questionnaires and literature review, and consulting the psychological experts, we established the condom use attitude questionnaires and control questionnaires to measure the Chinese college students' condom use attitude and control. Then we test the reliability and validity of these questionnaires. Condom use attitude questionnaire, subjective norms questionnaire, condom use control questionnaire, descriptive norms questionnaire, prototype perception questionnaire and condom use intention and willingness questionnaires are used to detect the theoretical hypothesis. Then we test the validity of theory of planned and prototype/willingness model to predict the condom use intention and willingness of college students by SEM method, next we test the validity of the extend theory of theory of planned behavior to construct integration model. In the end, the status of sexual behavior and condom use of college students was analyzed. The characteristics of college students' condom use intention and willingness. The results of this study are as follow:(1) The self-made questionnaires have high reliability and validity, and it can be used to measure the college students' condom use attitude and control.(2) The theory of planned behavior can predict college students' condom use intention. These was no different in the model between male and female students, which means that condom use attitude, subjective norms and condom use control can predict students' condom use intention.(3) It can enhance the explanatory power of condom use intention when taking the descriptive norms and prototypes perception into the theory of planned behavior.(4) We confirmed that the prototype/willingness model can not predict the condom use willingness of Chinese colleges. The extended theory of planned behavior can predict the condom use intention of Chinese colleges. It was means that condom use attitude, peer norms, condom use control, prototype perception as well as condom use willingness can predict the condom use intention of college students.(5) The condom use intention was significant different for different genders, majors, grade and regions. The condom use willingness was significant different for different genders and different regions. The interaction between gender and grade, grade and majors are significant for condom use intentions. The interaction between gender and grade are significant for condoms use willingness.
