Objective:To investigate the expression ofβ-catenin and adenomatous polyposis coli(APC) protein in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Method:β-catenin and APC protein expression of 32 cases of HCC and paraneoplastic tissues, and 12 cases of normal liver tissues were measured by immunohistochemical staining.Results:β-catenin expression on cell membrane of HCC tissues was significantly lower (28%,9/32) than normal liver tissues(75%,9/12,P<0.05).β-catenin expression in cytoplasm of HCC tissues was significantly higher(63%,20/32) than normal liver tissues(25%,3/12,P<0.05).APC protein expression rate in HCC tissues, paraneoplastic tissues, and normal liver tissues was21%,67%,and83%,respectively(P<0.05).The two-year survival rate was lower inβ-catenin positive group than that in negative group (P<0.05). Conclutions:There is an abnormal accumulation ofβ-catenin in hepatocellular carcinoma cells. This phenomenon may be related to the low expression of APC protein and thus involved in the occurrence and developing of HCC. |
