ObjectiveTo investigate the impact on the apoptosis and to observe the molecular mechanism of neuroprotection between the therapeutic effect of hyperbaric oxygenation(HBO)and mild hypothermia(MHT)of rat after traumatic brain injury (TBI).MethodsThe rats were randomly assigned to one of the four groups: TBI alone; TBI and HBO;TBI-MHT; TBI-MHT and HBO.Apoptosis of neuron cells was evaluated with TUNEL and flow cytometry. The cerebral expression of Bcl-2 was analyzed with immunohistochemical technique.ResultsThere was a statistically significant increase in the intendity and extent of Bcl-2 expression in HBO and MHT groups of animals. The expression of Bcl-2 in the TBI-MHT and HBO group was the highest. These data correlate well with the reduction of TUNEL-positive cells after HBO and MHT treatment. ConclusionsHBO and MHT treatment can inhibit the apoptosis and increase the Bcl-2 expression more efficiently than alone.
