Characterized by a large volume and high rate of data, the Digital High-Frame-Rate Ultrasonic Imaging System is often held its performance bottleneck on the data transmission.In this dissertation, a high-rate medical ultrasonic data transmission system, based on optic fiber and PCI technology, is introduced. As an integral part of the Digital High-Frame-Rate Ultrasonic Imaging System, this data transmission system makes a real-time transfer of received ultrasonic signals to the computer where data will be concurrently processed for imaging. With each chapter carefully structured, this thesis elaborates on the scheme of the system, related theories of optical fiber transmission and PCI technology, and finally discusses the system's functional characteristics. The entire design is primarily comprised by three parts: 1. Design of optic-fiber transmission circuit; 2. Design of PCI interface circuit base on PCI9054; 3. Development of PCI device driver program and user application program base on PLX SDK.Throught comprehensive tests, the data transmission system ultimately achieved a highest data rate of 100MB/s, which avails to improve the frame rate of Digital Ultrasonic Imaging System. As the data is transmitted to the computer, it also greatly reduces the cost of Ultrasonic System by utilizing computer's software and hardware for imaging and functional upgrade. In addition, this data transmission system can also be referred to for the design of other data acquisition systems.
