Epimedium sutchuenense Franch, which belongs to family Epimedium, was frequently used traditional Chinese medicine,to have invigorate the kidney, made bones and muscles powerful and to cure beriberoid disease. More than 20 species of genus Epimedium distribute in Sichuan,Guizhou, Hubei provinces of China, accounting for more than half the global total. Modern pharmacology studies have shown that Epimedium can increase cardiovascular and cerebrovascular blood flow, and promote hematopoietic function, immune function and bone metabolism, and has anti-aging and anti-tumor efficacy.10 compounds were isolated from 70%ethanol extract of Epimedium sutchuenense Franch by repeat column chromatography of silica gel, polyamide,Sephadex LH-20 and ODS,and their structures were identified on the basis of spectral methods. They are sutchuentin A(1),sutchuentin B(2), daidzein(3),baohuoside-Ⅰ(4),kaempferide 3-rhamnoside(5),icariin(6), anhydroicaritin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1→2)-α-L-rhamnopyranosid-e (7),p-hydroxybenzoic acid(8),daucosterol(9),β-sitosterol(10),respectively. Compounds 1 and 2 are novel ones named as sutchuentins A and B respectively.Compounds 3,5,7,8-10 are isolated from this plant for the first time. The antibacterial activities of the extract and the 10 compounds were also detected in the current study.Icariin,baohuoside-I and extracted ethyl acetate extract layer to carry out a preliminary experimental study of inhibition, the study shows that Icariin for E.coli,Staphylococcus aureus,Bacillus subtilis bacilli with good inhibitory effect, while Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans inhibitory effect was not obvious.Baohuoside-Ⅰand extracted ethyl acetate extract layer also has a bacteriostatic effect. Its further inhibitory concentration and minimal inhibitory mechanism remains to be further study.
