ObjectiveParkinson-plus syndromes are a group of diseases featuring the classical features of parkinson's disease with additional features that distinguish them from simple idiopathic Parkinson's disease. In the early stage of Parkinson-plus syndromes, many patients often have one symptom, and many other symptoms gradually appear go with the progress of the disease, so it is hard to make a clinical definite diagnosis in the early stage of the dieases. In this study, we follow-up visit the patients of Parkinson-plus syndromes to record the age of onset, first symptom, progress of the disease, simultaneous phenomenon, and then make comparisons among different types of the Parkinson-plus syndromes and parkinson's disease. We hope that this study can help us to raise the rate of the clinical definite diagnosis in the early stage of the diease, so that we can do corresponding thrapy to relieve the symptom, or delay the disease process.Methods1. 56 Parkinson-plus syndromes patients were recruited in this study. And these patients were from Qilu Hospital. The patients of the comparison group included 56 IPD patients. The diagnosis of PD referred to the UK PD Brain Bank criteria.2. All patients with Parkinson-plus syndromes and the comparison group patients received general information on the questionnaire, including age, sex, education, living environment, whether contacting with toxic substances, and the course of disease, the first symptom, the details of taking drugs, simultaneous phenomenons. All the patients were graded according to UPDRS and Hoehn & Yahr staging.3. Do a follow-up study about all the patients which includes all the 56 Parkinson- plus syndromes patients and 56 IPD patients. Do a acute L-dopa test to all the patients, and record the UPDRS before and after the test. The difference of UPDRSIII which is graded before and after the test indicates the effect of L-dopa, and the change of UPDRSII and UPDRSIII in 24 months indicates the disease progress in 24 months.4. Statistic Manual: The data were analyzed using SPSS 13.0 for Windows (Chicago, IL) and Concise Statisyics. This study applied as follows statistical methods percent distribution, analysis of variance. and the results are Expressed wit Mean±standard deviation (X|-±SD) . A level of significance of p<0.05 was used.Results1. Trough the investigation and the comparison study about the 56 Parkinson-plus syndromes patients and 56 IPD patients, the results indicate that there are differences among different types of Parkinson-plus syndromes and parkinson's disease in the age of onset, the first symptom, simultaneous phenomenons, the effect of L-dopa,the first clinical diagnosis, the time of the first definite clinical diagnosis, the progress of the diseases.2. there are significant statistics in the age of onset, the effect of L-dopa,the time of the first definite clinical diagnosis, the progress of the diseases among the comparison groups.ConclusionsBy means of the study ,the results of investigation and the comparison study about the 56 Parkinson-plus syndrome patients and 56 IPD patients indicate that there are differences among different types of Parkinson-plus syndromes and parkinson's disease in the age of onset, the first symptom, simultaneous phenomenon, the effect of L-dopa,the first clinical diagnosis, the time of the first definite clinical diagnosis, the progress of the diseases. The results of the study could provide a guidance to make a early definite clinical diagnosis,so that wo can do a intervention in the early stage of the Parkinsonism plus syndrome.
