The Study On Standardized Patients Method Applying In The Teaching Of Nursing Fundamentals

ObjectiveTo compare the effectiveness of two teaching methods which were applied in the course of nursing fundamentals. The two methods were the traditional one and the SP one.Methods95 students who were enrolled in Youjiang Medical College in 2006 were randomly divided into two groups. 48 students were taught using the traditional method.47 students were taught using SP method. After the teaching, the nursing skills were evaluated, and the investigation of SP and the students in the experimental group was performed in order to learn about their idea about the SP experience and SP method. The database was set up in SPSS 11.5. t-test and Pearson Chi-square test were performed.Results1. At the 0.05 level, the result of t-test about the overall achievement of nursing skills between the control group and the experimental group indicated that there was statistical difference, especially the communication in human nature, evaluating patients, appearance proprieties in the process of nursing operation.2. All students in the experimental group liked SP method.85.1 percent of students in the experimental group thought the SP method solidified their theoretical knowledge.76.6 percent of students in the experimental group thought the SP method inspired their interest of learning nursing skills.3. All SP thought the experience deepened their comprehension of nursing skills. All SP thought they themselves were happy as they were needed by others. 81.3 percent of SP in the experimental group thought the experience was beneficial to their understanding of theoretical knowledge.93.8 percent of SP thought the experience help them establish better relationship with low-grade students.Conclusions1. The SP teaching method which is applied in the teaching of nursing fundamentals can improve the student nurses' nursing skills, especially the communication in human nature, evaluating patients, appearance proprieties in the process of nursing operation.2.
