Objective: To study the expression and correlations of Snail and PDEF in tissue of prostate cancer. To analyze the mutual relationship between the two factors and prostate cancer's different age , clinical stages, histological grade, PSA level and PSA density .And discuss their significance in carcinogenesis, progression of prostate carcinoma, providing a approach for the diagnosis and treatment of the tumor.Methods: The medical records including histopathological features of patients with prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia diagnosed between Jan 20003 and May 2008 were retrieved from the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South Univercity. Tumor slides stained with HE from these patients were reviewed. Immunohistochemistry staining of streptavidin peroxidase were performed useing antibodies to Snail and PDEF for detect the expression of Snail and PDEF in 38 PCa and 20 BPH tissue.Results: 1) In BPH and PCa , the positive rates of snail were 20%,57.8 % respectively. The expression of PDEF was on the rise from BPH and PCa,which is 25%,60.5% respectively.2) In PCa group,the expression of snail is 57.8%,which is relevant to clinical stages, histological grade, PSA level and PSAD of prostate carcinoma(P<0.05),but not to the age(P>0.05);the expression of PDEF is 60.5%,which is relevant to tclinical stages, histological grade, PSA level and PSAD of prostate carcinoma (P<0.05) ,but not to the age(P>0.05). 3) In the Pca group,the expression of Snail and PDEF in the metastasized and non-metastasized groups is 82.35%,39.09%; 82.35%,24.85%respectively. These two proteins is closely related to the metastasis of prostate carcinoma(P<0.05).4) The expression of Snail and PDEF is positive correlation in prostate cancer (P<0.05,r=0.511) ,Snail and PSAD is positive correlation in prostate carcinoma (P<0.05, r=0.362) ,PDEF and PSAD is positively correlated in prostate carcinoma (P<0.05, r=0.432) .Conclusions: (1)The expression of Snail was significant difference in Pca group,and the expression of Snail is closely related to the grading,theclinical staging and metastasis in PCa.(2)The expression of PDEF was significant difference in PCa group,andthe expression of PDEF is closely related to the grading,the clinicalstaging and metastasis in PCa.(3)The expression of Snail and PDEF is positive correlation in prostatecancer. So the Combine detection of Snail in prostate carcinoma maycontribute to the diagnosis and prognosis of prostate cancer. Snail andPDEF can be used as an biomaker for detact metastasis and a potentialmarker and target in prostate cancer.
