Objective : To prove that index of condylar shape is a feasible method to the primary dignosis of condylar hyperactivity, and obtain a probalbe reference range of condylar shape index on the normal side and affected side on mandible. Methods:Doing the cephalometric analysis on the panormic of 18 unilateral condylar hyperactivity patients by modified obwegeser method, and got the length of below: WC,WN,ABP,ARL,APL,BH,and calculated the mean value of these results: WC/APL, WN/APL, WC/ARL, WN/ ARL, WC/HRL, WN/ HRL, and they were the MICS 1, MICS 2, MICS 3, MICS 4, MICS 5, MICS 6, and MICS 1',MICS 2',MICS 3',MICS 4',MICS 5',MICS 6',divided them into normal group and affected group, calculated the reference range and did the compared samples t test of the two groups one MICS by one MICS, and also calculated the reference range of normal group and affected group. Results:The results of t test:the 6 pairs of MICS has significant differences(p value<0.05), and the reference range of normal group: RRICS 1:0.4582,RRICS 2:0.3989,RRICS 3:0.1528,RRICS 4: 0.1329,RRICS 5:0.1178,RRICS 6:0.1027, the reference range of affected group: RRICS 1':0.1963-0.5362 RRICS 2':0.2283-0.4686 RRICS 3':0.0789-0.1832 RRICS 4 ': 0.0903-0.1590 RRICS 5 ': 0.0556-0.1389 RRICS ':0.0671-0.1182.Discussions:The primary dignosis of facial asymmetry deformity by unkown reason, besides the general clinical manifestation, the condylar shape index which mentioned above can also measure the both sides of mandibule and bilateral condyles, through the measurement we can consern which side of condyle was affect by the condylar hyperactivity, this easy method was a requisite supplement to the traditional dignosis, not only saving the time but also saving the cost of dignosis.
