Objective On the basis of the baseline study of the AIDS related knowledge, attitudes, current behavioral situations and influencing factors of the male migrants in rural North Anhui, to take comprehensive intervention measures among these male migrants and to estimate the intervention effects and to discuss the behavioral intervention mode of preventing AIDS among male migrants in rural North Anhui.Methods Cluster sampling was used to survey Xingtang and Tianqiao in Linquan County in Anhui Province, adopting migrants AIDS KAP questionnaires, baseline survey was carried out among the male migrants of age between 20-59, publicity and education on the intervention subjects, peer education and other intervention measures were carried out on the basis of the baseline survey, and then survey follow-up and assessment were made.Unicode each entry on the questionnaires, build the database for data entry by means of Epi Data 3.0, sorting and analyzing data by means of the statistic analysis software SPSS 13.0. Calculate the awareness rate and the scores of knowledge based on the numbers of the right answers on the questionnaires, analyze the changing situation of the awareness rate of AIDS knowledge of male migrants before and after the intervention by means of chi-square test and Logistic regression related analysis statistical methods.Results The major routes for the male migrants in rural North Anhui to receive AIDS related knowledge were through TV, posters and propaganda by medical staffs. The total awareness rate of AIDS knowledge was 67.65%, in which the awareness rates of the basic knowledge, the transmission routes and the prevention knowledge were respectively 61.78%, 69.96% and 69.17%, still most of the male migrants (86.0%) wanted to receive more AIDS knowledge, and their major routes required were through TV, posters and propaganda by medical staffs. The correct answer fill rate of the condom related knowledge was 65.4% - 92.3%, and the migrants who had never used a 0000condom in the sex life constituted the majority.The knowledge awareness rates of various kinds of non-transmission routes of AIDS of the male migrants in rural North Anhui had increased considerably, and showed statistical significance (P<0.05). The correct answer fill rate of the attitude questions toward AIDS victims and AIDS virus carriers increased from 33.7%-71.8% to 54.0%-84.1%. The condom use rate of the study subjects showed a tendency to improve after intervention, but was not statistically significant (P>0.05).Conclusions There is a danger for the male migrants in rural North Anhui to be infected with AIDS, a general increase in the AIDS awareness rate could be achieved by propaganda and intervention, and also their attitudes and behavior show a tendency to improve. The studies indicated that, relying on the county-town-village three-level net, integrating the local health resources and founding a multi-sectoral cooperative AIDS health education and behavioral intervention mode is very effective.
