Objective : To explore the hepatic regeneration following partial hepatic resection combined with different type of gastriectomy.Methods: Fifty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats , body weight: 180g to 240g ,were randomized into three groups of eighteen animals each: in each group,68% of the hepatic was resected . Additionally,20% of the gastric was resected in group B with 70% of the gastric body and group C with the gastric antrum .Six rats in each group were sacrified for heptic tissue samples on the 24th ,48th , 72nd postoperative hour respectively ; residual liver was weighed ,fixed with 10% formalin, stained with H-E. Liver regeneration rate (LRR) and MI(mitotic index) of liver were examined and PCNA (proliferating cell nuclear antigen) labeling index of hepatocyte was investigated immunohistochemically .Results:①In group A , LRR rapidly increased, reached 48.31±3.86% at the 24th h after PH ,then increased steadly .While the values of 24thh in group B were 22.85±4.03%,then increased obviously ;The values of 48th h were 47.63±5.18%, then increased slowly. LRR increase at 24thh ,48th h in group B was obviously slower than that of group A respectively(P < 0. 01). The values of 72nd h were 61.46±5.43% in group A, 54.11±4.93% in group B, there was statistical difference between them (P=0.031). in group C ,the values were : 12.38±2.84% (24h),21.71±5.06%(48h), 29.31±6.97%(72h),Compared with group A and group B at various time points ,the differences were significant (P < 0. 01).②In group A , MI labeling index rapidly increased ,reached peak of 40.03±5.60% at the 24th h after PH ,then increased slowly ;While the values in group B and group C increased slowly, reached their peak at 48th h postoperatively , then decreased slowly. The level of MI in group B was 24.40±3.97% at 24thh postoperatively,it was lower than that in group A significantly (P < 0. 01); And there was no statistical difference at 48th h, 72nd h respectively between the two groups ( P >0.05). The level of MI in group C at various time points postoperatively was:10.05±1.30% (24h), 12.76± 1.56%(48h),11.43±1.62%(72h),it was lowest compared with the other two groups respectively(P<0.01).③In group A , PCNA labeling index rapidly increased, reached peak of 62.66±2.61% at the 24th h after PH ,then decreased slowly ;While the values in group B and group C increased slowly, reached their peak at 48th h postoperatively , then decreased slowly. The level of PCNA in group B was 41.61±2.75% at 24thh postoperatively,it was lower than that in group A significantly (P < 0. 01); And there were no statistical difference at 48th h, 72nd h respectively between the two groups (P >0.05). The level of PCNA in group C at various time point postoperatively was : 21.46±1.34% (24h),38.13±1.36% (48h),24.46±1.46% (72h),it was lowest compared with the other two groups respectively(P<0.01).Conclusion: The regeneration of liver is inhibited by resection of the gastric antrum combined with 68 % PH in rats, retarded in the rats by 70% of the gastric body resected combined with 68 % PH.
