| Objectives: To observe the clinical effects of homemade balloon system in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.Methods: 96 patients were randomly divided into two groups(treatment group 42 cases and control group 54 cases). All cases are taken X-ray and CT .27 paitents are taken MRI to make a definite diagnosis: osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. The degree of osteoporosis was defied by X-ray of L3 bone trabecula.Treatment group,56 centrums,were treated with homemade balloon and bone cement. Control group,68 centrums, were treated with centrum-plasty.Preoperative and postoperative radiographs were analyzed to calculate the pain scores,percentage height restored and cobb angle improved.Results:①VAS:Treatment group and control group have significant statistically difference(p<0.05).There is no significant statistically difference between them(p>0.05).②In treatment group,the compressibilities of centrum antetheca and height has significant statistically difference between preoperative and post-operative(p<0.05). In control group, the compressibilities have no significant difference(p>0.05).③In treatment group , the recovery rate of salient angle is 71.8%. In control group,it is 9.2%.They have significant statistically difference(p<0.05).④There is no polymethymethacrylate leakage in treatment group. The leakage rate in control group is 27%.⑤The curative effect: In treatment group, 36 cases is CR(complete remission), 4cases is PR(partial remission), CR+PR is 95.24%. In control group, 44 cases is CR(complete remission), 6 cases is PR(partial remission), CR+PR is 92.59%. There is no significant statistically difference between them(p>0.05).Conclusion: Percutaneous kyphoplasty using homemade balloon system is efficacious and economical in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.The homemade balloon system is a microinsult technique which can substitute import balloon.
