Objective: We analyzed the risk factors relative to the phlegm-heat syndrome of insomnia, on the basis of which we further investigated the pathogenesis and syndrome regularity and characteristics of phlegm-heat insomnia, in order to provide new ideas for prevention and treatment research. Method: By collecting clinical information of the patients with insomnia, and analyzing symptoms and signs with the statistic methods, such as t-test, chi-square analysis and Logistic regression etc. generally explore dangerous factor and characteristics about the Phlegm-heat Syndrome of Insomnia. On this basis, analyze the pathogenesis and development of them combined with traditional Chinese medicine theory. Result: Ageing, gender differences in dietary preferences, smoking, mental tention, body obesity, snoring, hypertension, as well as congenital disposition and life style etc. are risk factors which can promote the formation of phlegm-heat syndrome of insomnia. The tongue and pulse manifestation are the mean points of diagnosis. Its characteristics are red tongue and greasy yellow tongue coating slippery pulse. Conclusion: The phlegm-heat is an important pathological factor of insomnia. phlegm-heat disturbance of spirit is the key to pathogenesis of insomnia. The phlegm-heat syndrome of Insomnia is a more complicated and lingering syndrome. The syndrome will bring into a series of badly pathogenesis changes, such as yin deficiency, blood stasis, qi deficiency etc. In clinical identification the phlegm-heat syndrome of Insomnia and actively looking for the risk factors of the phlegm-heat syndrome and timely intervention, prevention and treatment combination is much more important.
